MetaMetrics recommends inserting the following language into a textbook adoption Request for Proposal (RFP) to make sure the publisher provides Quantile® measures.
Quantile measures are due by [date]. The [state education department] has worked with MetaMetrics, developer of The Quantile® Framework for Mathematics, to provide information to schools regarding reading comprehension levels of textbooks. The call for textbooks requests that publishers provide copies of student texts in the subjects of [subject list] to MetaMetrics so that Quantile measures can be assigned.
Student text material should be submitted electronically in PDF format. Hardcopies of student texts are accepted; however, there is an additional cost to publishers for conversion (scanning). MetaMetrics will provide a Quantile report to the publisher using the information obtained from the calibration of all the textbooks being considered for adoption. The process for Quantile clibration takes approximately 25 business days. The calibration of textbooks is not mandatory, but providing this information is strongly recommended. Most of the schools in [state] are familiar with the Quantile Framework and depend upon a Quantile measure as a tool for instruction.
