16th Annual Model Schools Conference (Orlando, FL)
Promoting Student Literacy with Lexiles
Presenter: Malbert Smith III, Ph.D., President and Co-founder of MetaMetrics, Inc.
Each year, students across the country receive Lexile measures from classroom assessments and reading programs. This session will explore how educators can use these measures of student achievement to differentiate instruction and improve learning by matching students with materials that meet and challenge their reading abilities. Attendees will learn how they can use Lexiles to provide each student with targeted reading materials and activities; monitor growth toward year-end goals; create individual performance management plans, including summer activities; and raise achievement across the curriculum, in the library, and at home. Attendees also will learn how they can accomplish much of the same with El Sistema Lexile para Leer, the Spanish version of the Lexile Framework for Reading, as well as the new Lexile Framework for Writing.

CAMT 2008 (Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teaching) (Dallas, TX)
The Power of the Quantile Framework for Instruction
Students from Texas receive a report from their TAKS results that includes a Quantile measure. After two years of implementation, students in grades 5 through 12 have results from two consecutive grade levels. The Quantile Framework measures the demand of the skills and the ability of a young mathematician on a single scale. The classroom teacher is empowered to use teaching strategies in the classroom more effectively with their knowledge of the Quantile Framework.
